“Nobody Told Me This” – About the Postpartum Period and How Reiki Helped Me

Before giving birth, I felt prepared.
I took a birth class, read all the books, talked to my midwife, learned about contractions, breathing techniques, pain relief, water birth – the whole deal.
I thought: I’ve got this.

And then it started.

Yes, birth was painful (let’s be honest), but I did it. Naturally. No epidural. A few intense hours and it was done.
Then – euphoria, tears, exhaustion, sleep.

I woke up a few hours later. They let me keep my baby in skin-to-skin contact, wrapped us in warm blankets. We slept like that.
I’ll never forget her scent and that deep, almost sacred feeling of unity.

And then – the bubble burst.
I had to get out of bed.
Go to the bathroom.
Look in the mirror – and meet this new version of myself.
In pain. In shock.
“Nobody told me this.”

I cried. I felt lost. Overwhelmed.
Then I heard my baby crying behind the bathroom door.

Even though I received wonderful care in the hospital, and my partner was (and still is) a great support, I felt incredibly alone.
My aching body made everything harder. I had no idea how I was supposed to manage all this.

It wasn’t magical for me.
I wasn’t that glowing Instagram mom, posting perfect baby photos.
I was a scared girl holding a tiny baby, trying to breastfeed, crying from the pain in my breasts, my back, my pelvis.

Postpartum is:

  • physical healing
  • hormonal chaos
  • emotional overwhelm
  • a transformation from woman to mother

Yes, it’s hardcore.
This new version of you needs gentleness, support, and space to settle into your new life.
Even now, as I write this, I feel that same tightness in my chest.
But also – gratitude. For that time. And for Reiki.

Because most women (I dare say 99%)…

…feel broken, exhausted, and lost during postpartum.
They just want to feel peace.

That’s what Reiki gave me.
Calm. Deep relaxation. Energetic support.

What does a Reiki session look like?

I usually work with women in the comfort of their homes.
Sometimes it’s distance sessions – which is a blessing during postpartum.
Mama can lie down, breastfeed, even fall asleep – Reiki works regardless.

Sometimes I focus on physical healing – like cesarean recovery or pelvic pain.
Sometimes it’s all about emotions – easing anxiety, releasing fear, calming the baby blues.
Reiki works exactly where it’s needed.

What Reiki gave me after birth?

…deep relaxation and emotional relief
… better sleep
… faster physical recovery
…stronger connection to my intuition
…that feeling: “I’m safe. I can do this.”

Why am I writing this?

Because during pregnancy, everyone asks how you feel.
They’re excited.
But after birth, the focus shifts to the baby.
You become invisible.
You’ve “done your part.” Now: breastfeed.

I believe postpartum deserves more care and attention.
You are not alone.
Reiki can be your quiet, nurturing space to come back to yourself – as a woman, a mother, a human being who’s just gone through something huge.

Even now, writing this, I have tears in my eyes.
Because I remember how damn hard it was.

If you’re in postpartum, or preparing for it – I’m here.
With heart, with space, and with Reiki.
