Reiki During Pregnancy – My Experiences and Reflections.

Is Reiki safe during pregnancy? How can it support the mother-to-be and her baby? Today I want to share my personal story of working with Reiki during my two pregnancies — each of them was different, yet Reiki always helped me reconnect with myself.

Reiki in Pregnancy — What Is It and Why Is It Worth Trying?

Reiki is a holistic energy practice that supports relaxation and stress reduction — for both the mother and the growing baby. Reiki is not a substitute for medical care, but many women choose it as emotional and energetic support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

As a mother of two wonderful daughters, I had the chance to experience Reiki in both pregnancies. Each was different, and my needs and approach to Reiki evolved with me.

What Did Reiki Give Me During Pregnancy?

The answer is not simple — each pregnancy was a different lesson for me. In this post, I’ll share a general outline, and in future posts, I’ll describe each pregnancy in detail.

My First Pregnancy — Reiki as Support in Difficult Times

It was during the COVID-19 pandemic, and by the end of my pregnancy, the war in Ukraine broke out. It was an emotionally challenging time — living in Germany, with my family in Poland, I was overwhelmed by news from the border.

Reiki helped me regain peace. Thanks to regular sessions with a Reiki practitioner, I started to see the world with more distance and clarity. I became more resilient to media-driven panic and managed my fears better.Importantly — this peace didn’t come immediately. It was the result of regular treatments and inner work.

Importantly — this peace didn’t come immediately. It was the result of regular treatments and inner work.

My Second Pregnancy — When You Forget About the Tools That Help You

My second pregnancy was completely different. I had already completed Reiki Level 1, I worked intensely, traveled a lot, and we were in the middle of moving from Düsseldorf to Berlin.

During one business trip, I caught COVID-19. I was severely ill, and complications lingered for weeks. Instead of slowing down, I pushed through: deadlines, clients, relocation. Eventually, my body said “stop” — and I was told my pregnancy was at risk.

That’s when I “remembered” Reiki. I began self-treatments and also reached out to a Reiki Master who later became my teacher. That session was a turning point — I reconnected with myself and my inner calm. I practiced Reiki almost daily before bed. Day by day, my pregnancy began to stabilize as I found more peace within myself.

Towards the end of the pregnancy, I decided to take the Level 2 Reiki course. I consulted my doctor and midwife — neither saw any contraindications. It was a breakthrough — Reiki became part of my daily life, accompanying me even during labor.

Birth, Health, and Medical Care

Throughout my pregnancy, I was under the care of doctors and a midwife. I had regular check-ups and followed all recommendations. Reiki was a complement — a space for breathing, mindfulness, and self-connection.

Despite the risks in my second pregnancy, my daughter was born healthy. Both births were natural, without complications or anesthesia.

Is Reiki Safe During Pregnancy?

From my perspective and experience — yes. However, every woman should make decisions about additional support methods in consultation with her doctor or midwife. Reiki doesn’t replace medicine but can beautifully support emotional and energetic well-being.
